Here’s Elvis at 21, a poor boy from a poor town. He didn’t have a crew of stylists and coreographers behind him. He took his influence from the people he liked in music and film and it just came together in the way you see it. He wasn’t styled by experts. He dressed in the latest clothes that he liked. He sang the way he wanted. No one made him stand by a piano practising over and over, or stand in front of mirrors perfecting his moves. No one told him how he should sing a song. He didn’t write his own songs but he produced his records and arranged the songs. He didn’t have a sad sob story to tell to make people feel sorry for him on a TV talent show like American idol and X-Factor. To some of the older generation he was the Devil. Even your Gran likes the x-factor and American Idol programmes. He could play the guitar but also used it as a prop for expression. He wasn’t taught how to move, stand or what to say. The music industry soon realised there was money to be made in rock and roll when he arrived. From that day right the way through to today, pop stars have had people who tell them how to move, dress and sing. Unfortunately no one on X factor or American Idol will get to imagine their own style. A whole team of experts will jump in, to mould them to how you all eventually see them on the live shows and beyond. It is all planned, organised and deliberate. Elvis Presley was a completely natural talent and he had the ‘x factor’ that they are still desperately

  • Elvis? voice is heaven. Let’s face it. It’s the most beautiful voice of all time.
I absolutely agree with Q Magazine crowning Elvis with “the greatest voice of all time”
    1. Elvis Presley
    2. Aretha Franklin
    3. Frank Sinatra
    4. Otis Redding
    5. John Lennon
    6. Marvin Gaye
    7. Kurt Cobain
    8. Robert Plant
I sooooo agreeeeee….I love his ballads like this and love me tender, and gospel like peace in the valley, and love songs like are you lonesome tonight and don’t stop loving me, and tweedle dee!!!

  • A brilliant synopsis of the greatest popular star who ever lived. Elvis Presley’s like, will never be seen again. He had everything, a fabulous voice, looks to die for, (and I’m a man) a great acting talent (in the early films at least) and a shy, self effacing personality. The world was a poorer place after 1978.

  • he always said “God bless you as He bless me” by the end of his show..
thank you for posting this video, I haven’t born at his era but I enjoy watching his
    video so much !!

  • This song was his second single for RCA. My mind boggles at the thought of how many people like Elvis, and at how many people he made happy with his music the world over. He certainly started Rock&Roll, and all great Rock&Roll – to this day – has traces of Elvis. Because of all these reasons I think he’s the best thing that ever happened to humanity, after Jesus, probably. Thanks for the post

  • I greatly enjoyed reading your insightful comments & of course seeing this rare clip of Elvis on the Steve Allen TV show way back in ‘56 (the year I was born!). Love him or hate him, there’s no denying Elvis was an original talent & gifted performer. Truly a “one of a kind”. Thank you very much for sharing this clip & your articulate and thoughtful words with us!
